Description

The Melbourne Cricket Club is famous throughout the cricketing world for its superb collection of photographs, paintings and memorabilia representing every aspect of cricket - dating from the earliest days of the game right up to the present day.

Glorious Innings presents some of the best known and loved treasures from the collection as well as material which has not previously been accessible to the public. The range is wide - from a very early copy of the first written Laws of Cricket (1744) to a photograph of the MCG during the first ever international cricket match played in Australia (1862), from the bat used to make the first century scored by an Englishman in Australia (1864) to the pads worn by Rodney Marsh in the Centenary Test (1977). The illustrations are linked together by text and captions which touch upon some of the most important themes in the history of cricket and which place each of the objects firmly into its historical context.
